Taking care of your body is something I’ve seen a lot of people put as a very low priority. The majority of people don’t exercise and don’t eat well. An ever increasing percentage of Americans are overweight and dying from diseases that could be managed through lifestyle changes.
Taking care of your body is kind of like doing maintenance for your car. If you have a car and you fail to give it oil changes, if you ignore the check engine light, if you drive around with a flat tire, you’re going to damage the car. The same applies to our bodies.
If you start gaining weight, you’re putting more strain on all of your joints and organs. It’s like driving around with the check engine light on. Ignoring it isn’t going to magically fix it and the longer you wait, the worse it’ll get.
If you start having a knee issue and keep walking around on it, it’s like driving around with a flat tire. You’re going to make it worse if you just keep pushing through it and damage other joints in the process.
If you don’t exercise, it’s like never getting an oil change. Your body will become less and less efficient at producing energy and overall performance will get worse and worse.
The sad thing is most people are much better at taking care of their cars than their bodies. You can always get a new car, the body you have is the only one you get. That’s it. It’s up to you how you treat it.
